TLDR: IV drips have not been shown to cause weight loss. Build your routine around food, activity, sleep, stress management and medical care, then compare drip ingredients if you want fluids and nutrients alongside that routine.

The evidence does not show that IV drips cause weight loss, which depends on food and calorie intake, physical activity, sleep, stress management and medical care.

If you’re considering IV therapy for weight loss, here’s the plain truth: IV vitamins do not replace your daily habits. Our team reviewed 13 primary sources for this guide, from NIH, CDC and FTC to published studies. A drip supplies fluids and nutrients, while the meals you eat, the movement you make time for and your medical care remain the foundation.

What does the science say about IV therapy for weight loss?

For you, the guidance here offers no basis for expecting weight loss from IV therapy. Cleveland Clinic’s IV vitamin guidance describes limited scientific support for a direct general wellness benefit from IV vitamins in healthy people. It is not a weight-loss trial. A vitamin drip’s ingredient list does not tell you whether it changes body weight.

IV vitamins do not replace your prescribed medicines or a healthy diet, according to Cleveland Clinic. They also do not undo habits involving food, exercise, sleep or stress management. Adding vitamins to a bag leaves those daily jobs in your hands.

What drives weight loss in your daily routine?

Healthy eating, regular activity, enough sleep and stress management are part of healthy weight loss. Model image.

Food, activity, sleep, stress management and medical care drive your plan. The CDC describes healthy weight loss as a lifestyle that includes healthy eating, regular activity, enough sleep and stress management. These are habits across your week, from meals at home to movement between busy days. An IV appointment does not replace any of them.

  • Food and calories: healthy eating and taking in fewer calories than you use are central to weight loss.
  • Activity: regular movement matters, and CDC guidance for adults includes muscle-strengthening activity on at least two days each week.
  • Sleep: enough sleep is part of the CDC’s healthy weight-loss guidance.
  • Stress management: include it alongside food, activity and sleep in your routine.
  • Medical care: keep taking prescribed medicines as directed, rather than replacing them with IV vitamins.

For your food and activity plan, NIDDK describes healthy foods and beverages plus regular physical exercise as a potential way to reach and maintain a suitable weight. That means both parts need room in your week. A fitness regimen does not turn a drip into a weight-loss tool. Your meals still matter on the days you exercise.

Where does IV hydration fit around your routine?

IV hydration supplies fluid, while drinking water remains part of your daily routine. The CDC’s drinking-water guidance says your body needs more water in hot climates and during greater physical activity. Swapping sugary drinks for plain drinking water also has the potential to reduce your calorie intake. These are facts about what you drink, not findings about an IV.

Cleveland Clinic’s medical-care guidance describes IV fluids entering your bloodstream through a tube into a vein. Cleveland Clinic describes IV fluids as replacing fluids and electrolytes in medical care. Its expert guidance on IV vitamins for healthy people explains that intravenous nutrients bypass your digestive system, while direct general wellness benefits remain uncertain. Going straight into a vein is a delivery method, not proof of a better result.

On a hot, active day, your need for water is real. Our guide to drinking water and the scale explains the oral route and the weight data. If you are following a medical plan, the guide to hydration alongside a medical program covers fluids and nutrients around that care. Neither route replaces the food, activity or medicine in your plan.

How should you compare IV therapy for weight loss options?

SlimDrip IV bag with The Drip Room label
The SlimDrip bag: B Complex, B-6, Amino Blend, B-12, Taurine and Lipo.

Compare the listed ingredients, because the sources here do not support a weight-loss ranking for drips. The Drip Room offers you ten signature drips, shown below. Each has a different listed formula for you to read. The useful comparison is what goes in the bag and which blend details still need an answer.

Signature dripListed formula and honest relationship
Hydr8Hydr8 lists Mineral Blend and B Complex. Ask what the Mineral Blend contains before you book.
EnergyBoostEnergyBoost lists B Complex, B-12 and Taurine. A formula name is not evidence of a weight-loss result.
SlimDripSlimDrip lists B Complex, B-6, Amino Blend, B-12, Taurine and Lipo. Its Lipo contents are unpublished.
AthletiXAthletiX lists B Complex, B-12, Magnesium Chloride, Vitamin C, Amino Blend and B-6. Its Amino Blend contents are unpublished.
The CocktailThe Cocktail lists Magnesium Chloride, Calcium Gluconate, B Complex, B-5, B-6, Vitamin C and B-12. The Cocktail is the only signature formula listing Calcium Gluconate and B-5 separately.
ImmuneBoostImmuneBoost lists B-12, B Complex, Magnesium Chloride, Vitamin C and Zinc. Compare with ColdBuster, which also lists B-6 and Glutathione.
ColdBusterColdBuster lists B-6, B-12, B Complex, Magnesium Chloride, Vitamin C, Zinc and Glutathione. An ingredient comparison does not demonstrate a weight-loss advantage.
GlowUpGlowUp lists B Complex, Amino Blend, Biotin, Magnesium Chloride, Vitamin C and Glutathione. GlowUp is the signature option listing Biotin.
Hangover HeroHangover Hero lists B-12, B Complex, Vitamin C and Glutathione. Of these two formulas, Hangover Hero and JetSet Revive, only Hangover Hero lists Glutathione.
JetSet ReviveJetSet Revive lists B-12, B Complex, Vitamin C and Magnesium Chloride. Keep food and sleep in your plans when comparing ingredients.

The Mineral Blend, Amino Blend and SlimDrip’s Lipo have no published contents. You should ask your provider what each contains before booking a drip. Our SlimDrip and Lipo guide explains the limits around that unpublished ingredient name. A blend name leaves its individual ingredients unknown.

For a closer look at ingredients on your list, read the B vitamins and weight-loss guide and the taurine and training guide. Those pages separate nutrient facts from claims about a finished drip. The NAD+ and weight-loss guide covers NAD+ IVs. Together with the water and medical-program guides above, they give you focused reads beyond this comparison.

How do you spot a claim that goes too far?

If you see a promise of substantial weight loss without diet or exercise, that promise goes too far. The FTC’s 2014 weight-claim guidance calls those promises false. It says meaningful weight loss requires taking in fewer calories than you use, a caloric deficit. A drip name does not change that requirement.

Ingredient studies also have limits when you read about a blend. The NIH Office of Dietary Supplements describes the case for oral dietary supplements for weight loss as inconclusive and unconvincing. Data for an ingredient combined with other ingredients are sometimes absent. Oral supplement findings are not IV findings, and a mix needs data on that mix.

Before booking, you also need to account for IV therapy risks. Cleveland Clinic lists possible bruising at the needle site and negative interactions with medicines. It gives no rates for these risks. Tell your provider about every medicine, supplement and vitamin you take.

IV Therapy for Weight Loss FAQ

Does IV therapy help you lose weight?

Current evidence does not show that IV therapy causes weight loss. A 2023 UK Drug and Therapeutics Bulletin review found a lack of high-quality data that high-dose IV vitamins offer benefits without a specific vitamin deficiency or medical condition. For your weight goal, do not read an IV ingredient list as proof of an outcome.

Which IV drip is best for weight loss?

No IV drip has a weight-loss ranking supported by these sources. If you are comparing formulas, SlimDrip lists B Complex, B-6, Amino Blend, B-12, Taurine and Lipo. Its Lipo contents are unpublished, so the name does not identify its ingredients. The lipotropic guide gives you a closer look at that distinction.

Can I get IV therapy while I’m working on weight loss?

Not without considering your health circumstances. Cleveland Clinic advises avoiding IV vitamins if you are receiving care for heart disease, high blood pressure, kidney disease or pregnancy. Those are reasons to speak with your provider before booking, regardless of your weight goal.

Do B12 shots help with weight loss?

Cleveland Clinic’s 2024 B12 guidance says B12 shots themselves are not associated with weight loss. If you are comparing routes, B vitamin shots go into muscle or deeply under the skin, rather than into a vein.

Does IV hydration help with weight loss?

The evidence here does not show weight loss from IV hydration. A 2024 systematic review and meta-analysis of eight drinking-water trials suggests drinking water might not significantly affect adiposity in people with excess body weight. For your planning, do not transfer drinking-water findings to IV hydration.

Is it safe to combine IV drips with a medical weight loss program?

Not automatically. NIDDK’s medication guidance says weight management medications work best alongside a lifestyle program. If you take prescription weight-loss medicine, share every medicine, supplement and vitamin with your medical professional before adding a drip.
